Lazer

Lazer is the oldest helmet manufacturer in the world, and are rapidly approaching their 100th anniversary in 2019. Like many of our favorite brands, Lazer may not be the largest or the best known but they are definitely doing something different and leading with true innovation in their designs. Based in the cycling Mecca of Belgium where riding is a way of life, Lazer notably sponsors Pro Tour team Katusha where their designs are tested in the toughest conditions around the world.

At the top (no pun intended) of Lazer’s technology innovations is the Rollsys system. This unique fit system has shaken up the helmet world and we are noticing other manufacturers now moving in this direction. Rollsys involves a cable-based retention that wraps the whole head and provides even tension as it is tightened. The result is not only a great fit that doesn’t have the typical pinch spots of other helmets, but the helmet also seems to actually float on your head. The first time you try a Rollsys helmet on it may feel strange as you may be used to a helmet locking around your head, but once you let it sit for a while you will realize it’s probably the most comfortable helmet you’ve ever worn.

Helium

At the top of the Lazer line is the Helium, this is the one used on the Pro Tour. Light, well-ventilated, and super-comfortable, the Helium is one of the finest helmets in the world.

Pricing
Helium – $230

Genesis

Although the Genesis is one step down in price, we find that the fit is slightly different than the Helium and generally speaking you either have a “Helium head” or a “Genesis head”. The Genesis is a little bit heavier (290g vs 265g) and doesn’t have the newer internal shell system, but it still has the excellent Rollsys fit system and compared to most other helmets it’s still a featherweight.

Pricing
Genesis – $175

Sphere

New for 2011, the Sphere is the answer for people looking for the Helium/Genesis fit quality but on a more limited budget.

Pricing
Sphere – $135

O2

When the fine folks at Lazer showed us the O2 and told us that it was one-size-fits-all we were skeptical.  Then we tried it on (one of us there was a “Helium head” and the other was a “Genesis head”) and we both agreed that it fit really really well.  Since we brought them into the store we have to say that the O2 fits over 90% of the customers that have tried it on, and it’s only at the extreme sizes where we need to find an alternative.  Pretty much everyone else says that it’s amazingly comfortable and it’s rapidly becoming our #1 helmet.

Pricing
O2 – $110

Neon

The new affordable option from Lazer brings the Rollsys to a price point previously unheard of for this level of quality.

Pricing
Neon – $55
