Ibis

Ibis are the boutique masters of the carbon fiber mountain bike. While other builders are (finally) getting around to using this material in their lineups, Ibis has been happily making and refining their carbon fiber designs for over half a decade now. One thing you can never expect from Ibis is the ordinary – these bikes ride like nothing else out there.

The current Ibis mountain bike trio includes the ultralight full-suspension Mojo SL, the brand new long-travel Mojo HD, and the ultra-ultralight (and highly innovative) Tranny. These bikes simply disappear and provide an airy link between you and the trail. Nothing can glide through the forest like an Ibis – come in and test ride one and you’ll see that we’re not exaggerating.

As much attention as their mountain bikes get, we can’t forget the wonderful yet underrated Silk SL road bike and the cyclocross Hakkalugi. Although there are plenty of carbon road and cross frames available today, none of them have the smoothness of these Ibis designs.

There are a lot of options available from Ibis, and we’d love to help you figure out which are best for you. We have a lot of experience with these bikes and matching the right components to them for Pacific Northwest riding conditions. Please contact us online, call us, or come in to the store for a friendly discussion.

Mojo SL (26″ 140mm travel)

The Mojo SL is the forest fairy of the mountain bike world, but make no mistake that this graceful creature can whip out its spiked hiking boots and solidly kick the ass of any trail that dares to get in its way. It is the refined version of the Mojo, with an overall weight savings but also strengthened with reinforced carbon fiber layups and titanium elements in carefully thought out places.

The Mojo SL zips up hills, rolls effortlessly around corners, and descends with a quickness that is pure joy. All you have to do is think and this bike moves with you. Ibis is one of five builders using Dave Weagle’s DW-Link rear suspension design, and the smooth, predictable response of the rear end is matched incredibly well with the light and stiff front end.

Mojo HD (26″ 160mm travel)

This is the newest Ibis bike, and every customer we’ve put on one has been incredibly happy with it. Where the minds at Ibis first took the foundation of the original Mojo and created the nimble SL, their next trip to the ol’ Mojo drawing board beefed it up with 20mm more travel and a stronger frame. This one is definitely in our shortlist of “ultimate PacNW bikes” with its ability to clear larger obstacles with confidence but also to do it with a lot (not all) of the finesse that the Mojo SL.

Tranny (26″ hardtail)

The hardtail is where most of the other mountain bike companies are cutting their teeth on carbon frames, and many of them are coming out with some great designs. In typical Ibis fashion, they have already moved ahead and their Tranny is far from your average carbon hardtail. To start with, the Tranny can be easily converted from geared to single speed drivetrain. It gets better when you realize that the same mechanism used to do the single speed conversion also makes this a versatile take-apart travel bike. Oh yeah, it’s also a stiff hardtail race monster to boot!

Road/Cyclocross Bikes

Silk SL

As Ibis is known mainly for their mountain bikes, their dropbar offerings are typically overlooked, which is a tragedy. Just like their mountain bikes they aren’t for everyone, and that’s the point. The Silk SL provides a ride that is smooth and light like carbon, but comfortable like the best metals, and strong and durable like you’d expect from a company specializing in mountain frames.

If you’re looking for something different in a road bike and don’t want to be on what everyone else is riding, give the Silk SL a try. We give it a strong recommendation for riders who do a lot of distance and want to upgrade to the weight savings and climbing ability of carbon but don’t want to give up the comfort or durability of their metal bikes.

Colors available: Matte Black, British Racing Green, or Red

Pricing
Frame – $1,399
Frame & Easton EC90SL Fork – $1,699

Complete Bikes:
with Shimano Dura-Ace – $5,499

Hakkalugi

Born from mud the Hakkalugi is a World Cup ready ‘cross race frame. At a scant 1100 grams for a 55cm frame the carbon fiber Hakkalugi is more than ready to be built into a race dream machine. Teamed up with an ENVE Composites carbon fork straight from Ibis for ample mud clearance and brake power it’s ready to go in any conditions. Full fleged cyclocross race geometry on the frame paired with hand laid carbon fiber makes the Hakkalugi a light, stiff, and agile ‘cross performer.
