Helmets

All bicycle helmets sold in the US have passed the CPSC standard for single impact collision and the need to diffuse the energy of the crash. Helmets do offer tremendous protection, even at the lowest price points. The variation in helmet features and pricing today is driven by ventilation, lower weight and higher levels of protection.

The greater the ventilation of the helmet, the larger and more numerous the vents. In order provide CPSC level and beyond protection, manufacturers are using new in-molding techniques, and carbon or fiberglass matrices that get molded into the foam structures. This increases strength and holds the helmet together, diffusing the energy, but allowing the helmet structure to stay intact, offering protection in multi-impact collisions.
